My approach centers on EMDR and somatic, body-based work — helping the nervous system process what talking alone often can't reach. For clients who want it, this work is integrated with faith: healing isn't only emotional or physical, it can be spiritual too, and I make room for that when it matters to you.
Alongside EMDR, I draw on Internal Family Systems (IFS) to build insight, awareness, and internal collaboration; the Flash Technique for gentler processing of specific memories; and play-based and expressive approaches for clients who communicate best outside of words. Together, these approaches let us address trauma from multiple angles — cognitive, somatic, and spiritual — rather than just one.
Top-down
Therapy interventions work using your thinking to understand how you feel about your experiences using explicit or concreate memory and fostering growth through gaining reflection and insight.
Bottom-up
Therapy is often needed to treat preverbal wounds and trauma memories that are stored in the body. Bottom up therapies help you heal through feelings and physical sensations, using implicit memory, which is the kind of memory that’s stored in your body without you knowing.
“Whatever you sweep under the rug, you sweep straight into your nervous system.”
— Dr. Adele LaFrance
The best therapy often combines both approaches, so processing can happen both with memories you remember and the encrypted "data" in the body. This will give you the best chance to help you integrate and reconnect with yourself.
Read more about specific modalities and interventions:
Polyvagal Theory
explains how our nervous system helps us feel safe or stressed, influencing our reactions to everyday challenges. Learning about this helps us have a choice.
EMDR
(Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)
is a therapy that uses guided right-left movements—to help your brain process painful memories, reduce their emotional impact, and foster healing.
Sensorimotor and Somatic
is a body-focused treatment that helps you become aware of your physical sensations and movements to process and heal from trauma or emotional stress.
Internal Family Systems
(IFS)
views the mind as a collection of different parts, or sub-personalities, each with their own feelings and needs. The goal: to connect with these parts so you can collaborate and feel more balanced.
IFS provides insight into internal experience, supporting awareness, connection and collaboration.
Flash Technique offers a gentle trauma processing approach using single memories.
Polyvagal Theory offers valuable strategies for understanding and supporting how our bodies experience safety.
Play based/expressive therapies allow for creative emotional communication.
For clients who want it, faith is woven throughout this work — not a separate modality, but a lens that can inform how we understand safety, meaning, and healing.
